Bruce Springsteen & Patti Smith: Η ανταλλαγή ενός τραγουδιού που έγινε τεράστια επιτυχία
Ένας ύμνος που έχουμε τραγουδήσει όλοι μας
Το 1978, ο Bruce Springsteen κυκλοφόρησε ένα από τα καλύτερα albums της καριέρας του με το "Darkness at the Edge of Town". Οι ηχογραφήσεις του album δεν ήταν καθόλου εύκολες καθώς μεταξύ άλλων υπήρχαν διαφωνίες μεταξύ του "Αφεντικού" και της παραγωγής. Ο Springsteen ήθελε έναν ήχο "garage" ενώ η παραγωγή έναν άκρως επαγγελματικό και τεχνικά τέλειο ήχο. Τελικά προσελήφθη ο μηχανικός Jimmy Iovine ώστε να κάνει μια μίξη των δύο. Δυστυχώς παραιτήθηκε λίγο αργότερα, καθώς δεν κατάφερε να πετύχει το επιθυμητό αποτέλεσμα. Ωστόσο στο ενδιάμεσο, έκανε μια "ανταλλαγή" που μας συντροφεύει μέχρι και σήμερα.
Δουλεύοντας με τον Springsteen, τον έβαλε να τραγουδήσει το "Because the Night" το οποίο είχε γράψει έναν χρόνο νωρίτερα. Εκείνη τη στιγμή λοιπόν σκέφτηκε πως το τραγούδι θα ταίριαζε καλύτερα στην Patti Smith, με την οποία δούλευε επάνω στο album "Easter". Είχε ένα δίκιο. Ο Springsteen έδωσε το ok, η Smith άλλαξε κάποιους στίχους και το "Because the Night" έγινε ένα κλασικό και ιστορικό τραγούδι.
