Γεννήθηκε στις 5 Μαΐου του 1818 και πέθανε στις 14 Μαρτίου του 1883.
Ο Καρλ Χάινριχ Μαρξ ήταν Γερμανός φιλόσοφος, κοινωνιολόγος, δημοσιογράφος, ιστορικός, πολιτικός οικονομολόγος και επαναστάτης σοσιαλιστής ενώ θεωρείται ως θεμελιωτής του κομμουνισμού.
Σπούδασε δίκαιο και φιλοσοφία στο πανεπιστήμιο. Ασχολήθηκε με πολλά ζητήματα ως φιλόσοφος και δημοσιογράφος. Είναι κατ' εξοχήν γνωστός για την ανάλυση της ιστορίας με όρους ταξικής πάλης, η οποία συνοψίζεται στη θεωρία ότι τα συμφέροντα των κεφαλαιοκρατών και των εργαζομένων είναι διαμετρικά αντίθετα μεταξύ τους. Έχει χαρακτηριστεί από τους κοινωνιολόγους ως ένας από τους ανθρώπους με τη μεγαλύτερη επιρροή στην ανθρώπινη ιστορία. Το έργο του έχει τόσο ισχυρούς υποστηρικτές όσο και φανατικούς κατακριτές. Η δουλειά του στον κλάδο της οικονομίας έθεσε τα θεμέλια για την καλύτερη κατανόηση της εργασίας και της σχέσης της με το κεφάλαιο.
